Paramount Day Spa + Zero Gravity Recliners from Palliser Rooms / EQ3

Paramount Day Spa

Zero Gravity Chair

March 20th Marks the Grand Opening of the New Location for Paramount Day Spa

As part of the incredible new location for Paramount Day Spa at 345 3rd Ave South, the owners decided to give their clients an amazing seating option for their spa treatments by using Zero Gravity recliners from Palliser Rooms / EQ3. Spa clients are in for a treat as they can really kick back and relax in the zero gravity position following a treatment at the spa.

The concept of a Zero Gravity chair first originated with NASA, as they searched for a way to reduce the pressure on an astronaut's body during take off by distributing their body weight as evenly as possible. The Zero gravity position is also the natural position into which the body moves when a person is floating in a microgravity condition, as would be the case in a spacecraft orbiting the earth.

When we get out of bed and stand up or sit at a desk, the force of gravity on our bodies causes the discs in our spines to compress, causing our spinal muscles to contract in order to maintain our balance. This process can cause pain and stress on our back. If, however, we can reduce the gravitational force on our backs, the muscles are then able to relax thus alleviating back pain and discomfort.

Therefore, an important health benefit of a Zero Gravity Recliner is the reduction of pressure on the spine. Not only does a Palliser Zero Gravity chair help to accomplish this, but it also moves the body in a very smooth manner with a sophisticated power mechanism. After a long day of sitting at a desk or standing up working, the effects of gravity can take their toll on our bodies. Many top quality mattresses can not even provide perfect support for our backs. A Zero Gravity Recliner can support the body in such a way that the weight is distributed evenly, allowing the spine to relax because of reduced gravitational pressure.

Further health benefits of a Zero Gravity chair include:

  • Allows your heart to pump blood more effortlessly because it is not working against gravity, especially due to the fact that the legs are in an elevated position. Oxygenated blood is working with the force of gravity rather than against it.
  • Reduces joint pressure.
  • Promotes circulation in the legs helping to reduce swelling.
  • Relaxes the back muscles so the spine can decompress.

The video below gives a brief demonstration of how the Zero Gravity Chair works:

Paramount has been Making Residents of Saskatoon Look Great for Over 65 Years

"Paramount Beauty Salon" was brought to life by Herman Barrett back in 1950, located in the York Building on 23rd Street. 2 years later, Ellen Gaunt began working with Mr. Barrett as his receptionist. Ellen went on to become the second owner of Paramount (1968) and also the driving force towards bringing esthetic services to Paramount and Saskatoon.

Paramount Day Spa

By 1955 she started offering the Paramount client, facial waxing, brow tinting, manicures, makeup and her real passion, facial treatments. In 1966, Paramount moved to the lower level location at 145-2nd Avenue No. It was here that the esthetic side of Paramount really developed. It was in the 1970’s that pedicures, sculptured nails and artificial lashes (yes, we were doing them back then too!) were introduced.

Women’s fashions and a ceramic boutique were also offered during that time. 1977 brought us the very first “Hydradermie” facial machine from Guinot. This signature Guinot treatment was ground-breaking in the facial industry at that time with its use of galvanic current to help penetrate nutrients into the skin offering a level of hydration that standard facial treatments were unable to accomplish. The 1980’s saw Paramount offering electrolysis, tanning beds, massage, body wraps, and the first "Non-surgical Face-lift" machine that used electrical current to stimulate facial muscles, creating amazing results and long-term effects. Also during this time Ellen introduced the "Paramount Charm Classes" to young Saskatoon women, instructing them in proper skin, nail and hair care.

Paramount Day Spa

In 1994, Ellen realized her life-long dream of opening Saskatoon’s first full service Day Spa. Paramount relocated to a beautiful new facility on 1st Avenue North offering full spa & salon services including full and half day spa packages.  Saskatoon women (and even a few men at that time) were quick to embrace this relatively new concept (in Saskatoon) and were anxious to go "spa-ing"!

As Ellen approached her "golden years", she wanted to find someone that she would feel confident could take over the reins of her "Paramount Baby". She found that someone in Laura Dutka. Laura purchased Paramount from Ellen in August, 2000 and relocated it to the corner of 2nd Avenue and King Street.

Paramount Day Spa

Over the past 14 years Laura has expanded the Paramount offering to include laser services, giftware, jewelry, women's fashions, and the very popular Spa Suite, where groups of 2 to 50 can enjoy social time along with their spa services. And with new licensing legislation you can now enjoy your favorite beverage while having your Paramount spa or salon service.

Paramount has always strived to be on the forefront of offering exceptional quality skin care services and corresponding products for its customers to use at home. This goal lead to the introduction of the YonKa (France) and Guinot (France) lines of products in the mid 1970's, followed by Babor (Germany) in the early 1980's. More recently in 2010, SwissLine (Switzerland), an advanced paramedical line, was introduced. Gehwol (Germany) is another line of exceptional quality that is used in all Paramount pedicures and offered for at-home use.

Paramount maintains a strong focus on the training and education of its staff and in turn, educating our guests so they are able to make informed decisions regarding their skin, nail and hair care services and product purchases.

Over the years, the service menu and the décor may have changed but Paramount has always and will always strive to deliver to its guests, the best we can offer in quality and value of services and products.

Stressless Recliners are made by a company called Ekornes which is based out of Norway. Stressless Furniture is built to the most rigorous of standards, and is built to last. Under the surface of supple leather and cozy fabric lies true engineering genius. From multifaceted sets of springs to foam that contours to your body, every aspect that goes into a piece of Stressless furniture is deliberately assembled to bring you an unparalleled seating experience. Understanding the science of comfort and movement brought about designs for the most comfortable, unique furniture in the world.

Beginning with a core built with rigid European beech, wood workers create sturdy bases with elegant curves and the distinctive swivel ring. The wood is then stained to sheer perfection and inspected to eliminate flaws.

Atop this solid base is a complex system of springs, foam and one continuous steel rod to support the entire structure. The intricate arrangement of springs includes the ultimate flexible lumbar spring in the Plus™ System, which cradles the back, neck and head for the optimal support in any recline position. The single steel rod base is created with a unique cold bending process. The process is more difficult, but it makes the product more durable.

Next, there is layered foam to create the softest, most conforming seat possible. The Comfort-Zones™ foam is molded directly over the steel base with perforations that ensure identical air pockets. This consistency ensures the foam's ventilation and a long lasting cushion. Two more layers of foam are fashioned above that to ensure the seat is protected and fully functional.

Top-grain leather is extensively tested for color consistency, durability and elasticity.  These hides, coming from the world's finest tanneries, are then cut and stretched over the foam and sewn by seamstresses.

After robots expertly construct each part of the furniture, each section is assembled by hand, completing the process with extensive inspection to ensure the highest quality products – an added level of devotion required when creating the world's smartest and most comfortable furniture.

From the factory to your home, these pieces were developed with inspired engineering to make sure that the newest chair becomes your favorite chair.

At Ekornes, preserving the environment not only protects the past, but also paves the way for the future. A future that deserves the same beauty we were afforded. Ensuring the quality of life for generations ahead is a culmination of small labors and changes coming together on a daily basis to maintain a healthy environment.
